Dyslexia Assessment Centre South West
About me:-

Often I have been amazed by the significant benefit a diagnosis of dyslexia can have on an individual but finding a suitably qualified assessor can be difficult, especially it would seem, in the South West.

Many families are directed towards Educational Psychologist but they are expensive and unfortunately their reports are often difficult for the layman to understand. As a specialist teacher I started to carry out assessments in 2001 with the aim of providing quality assessments at acceptable prices.

I initially trained as a teacher and taught for many years at Millfield School where I took over the role of being in charge of the counselling team. During this time I became painfully aware that many of the pupils who were contacting the team about apparent bullying were also the pupils who required additional support for dyslexia.
This experience inspired me to retrain to gain specialist dyslexia qualifications including a Masters degree and a current PATOSS practising certificate.

In a voluntary capacity I am chairman of the Somerset Dyslexia Association which is a charity active throughout the county. We run parent support groups, adult support groups, workshops and conferences for other education professionals.
